Elmer Leonard Ehler, age 95 of Oakland, passed away Sunday, May 17, 2015 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon.
Elmer was born October 25, 1919 in St. Joseph, IL to Elmer and Elizabeth (Reed) Ehler. He married Bertha Marie Nielsen on August 5, 1951 in Clinton, IA; she survives.
He is also survived by two children: Sharon Suver of Oakland, IL and Fred (June) Ehler of Oakland, IL; three grandchildren: Kevin (Tommi) Lloyd of Murfreesboro, TN, Bryan Lloyd of Philo, IL and Steve (Toya) Lloyd of Lebanon, TN; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Elmer served in the Air Force during WWII, and later joined the Navy reserves. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois. After completing his military service and education, he farmed in the Oakland area all his life and was a member of the Oakland United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at noon at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland. Visitation will be held for two hours prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Oakland V.F.W. Post #3637. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Cunningham Children’s Home, 1301 N Cunningham Ave., Urbana, Illinois 61802.
