HORSE SHOW,
____________
MAGNIFICENT DISPLAY OF FINE STOCK AT ANNUAL SHOW HELD LAST WEEK,
_______________________
Thousands of Dollars Worth of Fine Animals in the Rings Both Days.
The second annual tricounty Horse and Colt Show held in this city was a marvel, of success wonderful in the offerings of the two days.  It was conceded that the show last year was far ahead of anything this section, and it was feared that it would be hard to have as good a sow this time.  These forebodings were blasted with the opening day of the show this year when the rings began to show.  The weather was good as could have been ordered for the occasion and everything went off as well as could have been desired by the most fastideous mind.  There were 107 entries in the rings the first day, 199 the second day, this being a total of 306 entries in the rings for horses, mules and colts.  There were 14 entries in the hog department 89 head and 31 entries in the poultry exhibit with 150 birds and a few head of turkeys.  In the fruit and agricultural exhibit there were many but we are not able to give the exact number of entries to that department,  It is safe to say that the total number of entries in all departments will reach the neighborhood of five hundred.  In the horse and colt rings we tried to make and estimate of the values of the stuff shown and the judge estimated them all the way from $200 to $25,000.  Valuing each ring by itself the total amount of stuff shown will reach in the aggregate the vast sum of almost $120,000.  The fact taht this great show of stock was brought to Oakland ought to be gratifying to all the citizens of the city.  The show days were great occasions.  No one person claims special notice for the show but all who worked for the success of it are to be congratulated on the abundant success of the two days.  It could not have been better.  The judging was done by a very competent judge for the horse

People came from miles around for the Horse and Colt Show.
Traveling to the Coles Co Fair or any of the others around here would have been a very long trip with livestock.  It was probably logical for them to have something closer.
Folks back then picnicked on the square.  They probably even slept there.
I am not sure how many years this went on.  I am always looking for more information on it.
