Charles Edward Duzan, age 85 of Oakland, IL, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Presence Covenant Medical Center in Urbana.
Charles was born August 30, 1930 in Oakland, IL to Arley Essington and Mabel E. (Minor) Duzan. He married Barbara Lee Terry on August 24, 1952 in Charleston, IL; she survives.
He is also survived by three children: Randy (Pam) Duzan of Oakland, IL, Kevin Duzan of Oakland, IL, and Kristi (Patrick) Lawson of Ashmore, IL; three brothers: Jerry (Marie) Duzan of… Indianapolis, IN, Ronald (Pat) Duzan of Urbana, IL, and Rex (Janet) Duzan of Villa Grove, IL; five grandchildren: Darcy Duzan (Ryan Feder) of Charleston, IL, Jason (Tokwa) Duzan of Mattoon, IL, Stephanie (Matt) Murphy of Champaign, IL, Kelcie (Matt) Stewart of Lockport, IL, and Devanne Lawson of Ashmore, IL; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.
Charles was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War. He previously worked as an electrician at Hercules and was an active member of the Oakland community. He was a member of the Oakland United Methodist Church, where he also served as trustee, a member of the Oakland V.F.W., a past Oakland School Board member, Oakland Cemetery Trustee, past Chairman of the Cornbread & Bean Festival, former Cub Scout Master and he served as a volunteer firefighter for many years. He enjoyed fishing, travel, camping and picnics with his family.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland. Visitation will be held for two hours prior to the service, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Mound Cemetery. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Oakland United Methodist Church or to the Oakland Memorial Library.
